Who Should Use Our Tattoo Removal System?

Do you have tattoo remorse? If so, then you’re the ideal candidate for the Cutera® enlighten™ laser for tattoo removal. And you’re not the only person who feels this way. The American Society of Dermatological Surgery estimates that nearly 20 million Americans will eventually want to get a tattoo changed or removed. The enlighten™ laser works for people on all skin types and on tattoos of any size and color.

Is the enlighten™ Laser only Used for Tattoo Removal?

No, the enlighten™ laser can also be used to remove blemishes that are related to sun damage, such as brown spots or pigmentation on the skin. It can also remove marks that are the result of a burn or certain inflammatory conditions such as acne.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

A tattoo is a clump of ink pigment that’s deep within the skin. When the laser hits the tattoo, those clumps of ink pigment are broken up into smaller particles. After several treatment sessions, the particles become small enough for the body’s immune system to dispose of them. When laser removal is done correctly, no scarring occurs.

What Makes the enlighten™ Laser Different from Other Laser Technologies?

For the most effective tattoo removal, laser energy has to be delivered to the skin at high power over a very short time period. The enlighten™ laser dispenses extremely high energy in short, intense picosecond pulses. A picosecond is one trillionth of a second, which is a lot shorter than the nanosecond (one billionth of a second) technology that the majority of the existing tattoo removal lasers use. The faster laser pulse is more efficient in breaking up the ink, which results in needing fewer overall treatments.

How Many Treatments are Required?

The amount of treatments required depends on three factors: the color of the tattoo ink, the density, and the size of the tattoo. A typical treatment plan will be multiple sessions at monthly intervals. Because of its advanced technology, the enlighten™ laser removes tattoos in notably fewer sessions than current laser technology does. During your consultation, we will give you an estimated number of treatment sessions for your tattoo removal.

Why are Multiple Treatment Sessions Required?

The body will only remove the smallest ink particles after the initial session. The remaining particles will be broken down and eliminated from the body a little bit more during each laser treatment until they are completely removed. If the tattoo ink is very dense, then more treatments will be required.

Will the Tattoo Disappear Completely?

In the majority of cases, the tattoo will completely disappear. Occasionally, a tattoo will contain certain ink colors that are more challenging to erase. The level of removal will be discussed at your consultation.

What if I Just Want to Lighten Rather than Completely Remove the Tattoo?

We get this request from patients very often, and we can easily accommodate it. When a tattoo is lightened with the enlighten™ laser, it becomes much easier for a tattoo artist to alter or completely change it.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Hurt?

Laser tattoo removal will probably have the same level of discomfort that you felt while you were getting the tattoo. You could feel some mild stinging, similar to when you snap a rubber band down hard on your skin. Although laser treatment can be safely performed without using an anesthetic, we often have patients apply a topical local anesthetic cream. Laser tattoo removal sessions generally last between five and fifteen minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo. After the treatment is finished, you may experience some discomfort in that area, similar to how a sunburn feels.

How Much Downtime Will I Have?

Patients can return to their normal activities immediately following treatment because there is no wound care required.

What is the Cost of Laser Tattoo Removal?

The cost of to remove your tattoo will be determined after your initial consultation; when we will measure the tattoo’s size. Pricing for laser tattoo removal depends on the size of the tattoo, and/or the number treatments you may need. Average cost is $300-$500 per treatment with package prices available.
