NovaThreads are a non-surgical, injectable treatment that can lift, tighten, and define facial contours on the face, neck, and body. NovaThreads needles are preloaded with an absorbable suture made of Polydioxanone or PDO. These PDO sutures are absorbable by the body and are left under the skin.
The threads cause inflammation that signals the body to boost collagen production in the area (triggering a natural healing process). The boost in collagen helps to lift and tighten the skin. NovaThreads are most often used to tighten the jawline, reduce neck wrinkles, lift the brow, and lift the lower face. However, they can be used in other areas of the body where lifting and wrinkle reduction are desired.
How Is a NovaThreads Procedure Performed?
On the day of your NovaThreads procedure, Dr. McRae will disinfect your face and apply a topical anesthetic to numb the targeted areas. Patients typically experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. Patients may also select to have lidocaine in addition to the topical anesthetic.
Depending on the areas being treated and the desired results, the appropriate type of thread will be chosen and placed under the skin one at a time via a long thin needle by Dr. McRae and an RN. The threads run parallel to the surface of the skin and are adjusted into the desired positions to lift and tighten target areas. The needle is then removed, and the thread is left under the skin. Treatments take approximately 15 to 30 minutes depending on the areas being treated.

What Kind of Post-Operative NovaThreads Care Can I Expect?
After your NovaThreads procedure, you may notice some minor swelling or bruising in the treatment areas. NovaThreads provide lifting and tightening by stimulating the body’s natural inflammatory response, encouraging the production of new collagen along the threads.
Patients can return to work or home the same day of treatment. Any pain or discomfort should subside in about two weeks. The threads placed under the skin will gradually dissolve within the skin and should be completely dissolved around the six-month mark. The results achieved with NovaThreads® may last an additional 18 to 24 months after the threads dissolve. After the results have begun to fade patients can opt to undergo another NovaThreads® procedure if desired.
